Who we are
This page is to centralize resources for the Community Food Support Initiative on Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ territories.
Our goal is to make food free and accessible to those who need it. This is a community response premised on mutual aid rather than charity, we are not a non-profit or a business.
COVID-19 has only exacerbated existing food insecurity and inequality within our community. We aim to support folks in accessing food while making the process as barrier free as possible. Everyone in the community deserves access to healthy food.
Our organization is premised on values of mutual aid, anti-racism, decolonization, anti-capitalism, anti-ableism, queer positivity, and non-hierarchical community support.
What we do
We collect food donations from local stores and bring them to Quadra Village Community Gym (QVCG) where it is safely sorted into individual packages by volunteers. Volunteer drivers then pickup the food and deliver them to recipients. We currently support around 80 households per month with weekly food hampers.
We also operate a community fridge at 2725 Rock Bay Ave. The fridge is open 24/7 for community members to drop off or take food and operates under a “take what you need, leave what you can” philosophy.
We are hoping to open a second fridge location soon!
